Aircraft Keys

Posted on: October 18th, 2011 by Ben No Comments

We have had a few incidents lately of people going home with the aircraft keys – you know who you are! In order to try and prevent this, firstly I suggest that you don’t put the aircraft keys in your pocket, clip them to your kneeboard so that you will see them and not forget to hand them in. Secondly we are now introducing exchanging aircraft keys for car keys. When you ask for the aircraft keys you will be asked for your car keys, these will be returned to you when you hand back the aircraft keys.

Fly-outs 2012

Posted on: October 18th, 2011 by Ben No Comments

I am putting together a programme of fly-outs for next year, the aim is to have 6 through the year in total, with one overnight trip somewhere further afield. Please do let me have any suggestions or requests of places you’d like to go and whether you prefer longer or shorter trips. Fly-outs are a good opportunity to get to know other members, enjoy going to new places you wouldn’t necessarily feel able/want to go on your own. I realise long trips can stretch the ever limited budget though, so hope to get a mixture to suit everyone. Nicky Ops

Welcome to Ben

Posted on: September 12th, 2011 by Ben No Comments

I thought we should officially welcome Ben Koprowski on to the Instructing Team at Old Sarum. He has been working part-time in Operations for nearly a year and has now moved on to Instructing 3-4 days a week. You might still see him helping out behind the Ops desk occasionally though – I’m not letting him escape Ops entirely! Nicky Operations

Piper Arrow

Posted on: August 19th, 2011 by Ben No Comments

Hopefully the run of reasonably decent weather will continue through the rest of August and September! For those interested in expanding their experience we could have use of a Piper Arrow, which is a complex aircraft with retractable undercarriage and constant speed propeller, and is well suited to serious touring – it has a faster cruise speed and is a ‘true four-seater’. If anyone is interested then please let Operations know.

Two of our members recently flew G-SRUM to North Weald,  home of the North Weald Aviation Museum. The airfield has also been operational in various guises since 1916, and was an important Battle of Britain fighter station.  Below are some photos from their trip – photo credit to Colin Green.

Le Touquet Flyout a success!

Posted on: August 5th, 2011 by Ben No Comments

We are happy to report the Le Touquet flyout today was a success! 5 pilots in 2 aircraft made the crossing, returning with smiles and duty-free purchases. Five hungry pilots, two aircraft and one good weather forecast = Lunch in Le Touquet…All in the interests of broadening our aviation experience of course – thus it was that we found ourselves taxiing out on a nice day a couple of weeks ago having completed all the necessary formalities that are required to partake in an expedition of this magnitude. These included the filling in of the legendary GAR (General Aviation Report),… Read More »

Perranporth Flyout

Posted on: July 1st, 2011 by Ben No Comments

The recent flyout to Perranporth airfield was a very successful and enjoyable day out and a great opportunity to visit somewhere different for a change. Four school aircraft and eight crews participated, and in addition to fantastic VFR weather, blue skies and beautiful beaches, it was also a good opportunity to learn from each other and to pick up tips, the most important one being: Never ask a Cornishman the quickest way to the sea! We have a number of other flyouts being planned throughout the year, the next on Friday 5th of August to Le Touquet, France. Please ask at… Read More »
