CAA Safety Sense Leaflets
The CAA Safety Sense leaflets offer excellent information on a wide range of topics relevant to the private pilot, from good airmanship, to the use of GPS, to aircraft performance and many more. Our instructors highly recommend them to our students and pilots alike; and as we move into winter, we’d very much recommend reading at least Safety Sense Leaflet 03; Winter Flying! The full list of leaflets can be found here in .pdf format;
Old Sarum Airfield Status Page
Many of our student pilots and private hirers know to check NOTAMs and Met information before flight. However, most don’t know that Old Sarum Airfield produces a daily Airfield Status page, which includes; -Runway condition information -Boscombe CMATZ status -Parachuting operations status -Salisbury Plain Danger Area information (at weekends) -Any other relevant Old Sarum Airfield operational info This page can be found here; http://www.oldsarumairfield.co.uk/index.php/facilities/airfield-status We normally check this as part of our daily preflight briefing, and would recommend you do too!
Own or Group Aircraft Bookings
If you’d like to booking training in your own aircraft, our online bookings system is now set up to show own (or group shared) aircraft bookings. When you make a booking, simply select “Other Aircraft” as opposed to one of our own, and select the desired times, instructor and flight type as normal. Then enter your aircraft registration in the “Slot Display Text” field (see left hand photo below). Your booking will then show under your account, with the aircraft displayed via the new “other aircraft” section of the booking sheet (see right hand photo below).
Remembrance Sunday

Garmin 430 GPS Simulator
Our PA-28 training aircraft are equipped with the highly capable and widely used Garmin 430 Com/Nav GPS systems; this system combines radio, VOR navaid and GPS functions, making it essential for students and private pilot hirers to be familiar with it’s operation. Garmin have helpfully made a PC-based simulator & manual available, and we regard this simulator as an invaluable training aid at GoFly – it’s much easier (and cheaper!) to familiarise students with the system in slow time using a desk computer. We’d recommend booking groundschool with your friendly flight instructor for a full in-depth brief on the system,… Read More »
